FBCS is an elder-led congregational church. The congregation meets quarterly to discuss and make decisions regarding significant church issues like appointing leadership, establishing doctrine, and major financial decisions. The elders and pastors, supported by the church staff, provide spiritual leadership to the congregation.
Senior Pastor, Stephen McDonald
Stephen McDonald was born and raised in Northwest Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2008 with a degree in criminal justice and political science. After graduating, he began his Master of Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and began to serve in local churches. Stephen met his wife, Amanda, in college and they were married in July of 2010. The two of them have lived on the South Shore since 2014 and their first child, Nicholas, was born in the fall of 2018. He recently completed his Masters of Theology (ThM) at Gordon-Conwell Tehological Seminary. In his free time, Stephen enjoys watching and playing sports, as well as discussing politics, and reading history. Stephen can be reached at Stephen@fbcscituate.com
The New Testament churches were shepherded by a plurality of elders. The elders (also called pastors or overseers in the Bible) have responsibility for the spiritual care and leadership of the church. Elders must be men of exemplary Christian character who demonstrate leadership, an aptitude to teach sound doctrine, and a pastor’s heart for the congregation.
